Creative Ways to Promote Missions

Creative Ways to Promote Missions
July 11, 2006

Orthodox Christian Mission Center, St. Augustine, FL – Individuals across the United States are thinking of creative ways to promote the Mission Center around their parishes and communities. Here are just a few examples of the different types of support we have received:

Steven and Lisa Rigisich, along with their friends Eric and Teri White, have a passion for wine but more importantly they have combined their love for pinot noir into a worthy event that raises money for charities. This year the Orthodox Christian Mission Center’s missionaries, the Linderman Family, the Russell Family and Peter & Sharon Georges were some the beneficiaries of this annual Bay Area Wine Project. As “Pinot Days” was kicked off on June 23 – 25th, a portion of the proceeds benefited these families who gave up their livelihoods to become missionaries for OCMC.

From Joan Berg in Burr Ridge, Illinois - “In Response to a request form a friend to provide basic necessities for a child at the Home for Hope in Albania, I decided to provide a little more. I hosted a cocktail party for my colleagues at a restaurant in downtown Chicago for the benefit of The Home of Hope. As a result, three individuals donated materials and several others provided monetary donations, raising $1000 for the children at the home”.

The Papioanou Family in Longwood, Florida decided that their daughter, Theofania, had plenty of toys and wanted to teach her about giving back for all that God had given her. So on her next birthday, along with the invitations, her mother asked the Mission Center to put a package of pledge cards and a small note asking guests that in lieu of gifts that a  donation be made towards the Mission Center.

In Buffalo, New York, long time supporter Mary Danakis, took a Saturday morning to coordinate a Missions Walk. Along with her parish, they raised $2600 to support youth towards their OCMC mission trips.

Other creative ways to promote missions:

Host a dessert party, cocktail hour or dinner – Have people over or go to your favorite restaurant and discuss some insight on missions and how the ministries the Mission Center continues to spread the word of Orthodoxy.

Promote the Mission Center – Order some Mission Center materials like the OCMC magazine or brochures and give them to people that might be interested in missions, share the Mission Center video, and request a poster to put on a parish bulletin board.

Coordinate a project – Have a Missions walk, bake sale, garage sale or an auction, and find creative ways for others to raise funds.

Become an Advocate – Start a missions committee at your parish, share the Mission Center’s emails with friends or encourage friends to visit OCMC’s website to learn more about the missionaries, mission teams and mission priest that continue to put their faith in action.

These are only a few creative ways that come to mind when supporting the Mission Center. We want to thank all of our supporters for creating such amazing philanthropic projects while sharing their love towards the ministries of OCMC.  We ask for your continued prayers for all our missionaries, mission team members and mission priests. Funds to help support our ministries can be sent to the Orthodox Christian Mission Center to P.O. Box 4319, St. Augustine, FL 32085-4319.  To find out more about the Mission Center’s missionaries, visit www.ocmc.org. or contact us at missions@ocmc.org.
