The faithful at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church have partnered together with Orthodox Christian Network to add our very first station in New Jersey.

OCF Real Break Program Achieves Milestone

he Orthodox Christian Fellowship’s Real Break program continued its amazing growth this year, reaching a significant milestone - 500 students - in the process. In late February and March, 2006, 101 college students, participating in nine trips, actively engaged themselves in this life-changing experience. This brought the seven-year Real Break total to 518 students who have chosen this college ministry as an alternative to the traditional warm weather Spring Breaks that college students normally go on, often participating in a life style which can limit personal spiritual development.

Bishop Dimitrios of Xanthos to Celebrate the Groundbreaking of the Orthodox Christian Mission Center on May 5, 2006

After outgrowing its facilities three times, the Mission Center embarked on a major campaign effort to respond to that growth. May 5, 2006 will mark the successful conclusion of that campaign as it celebrates the groundbreaking of the new Missionary Training and Administrative Support Center. Bishop Dimitrios, who also serves as the General Secretary of SCOBA, will return to officiate at the ceremonies on the 20-acre property.

March 5, 2006 - Sunday of Cheesefare and Mission Sunday

As the Hierarchs of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA), we greet you in the peace of our Lord, God, and Savior Jesus Christ on this Sunday of Cheesefare. This day immediately precedes the beginning of our spiritual journey of Great and Holy Lent, a day which it has become our custom to observe annually as "Mission Sunday." On this day, we commend the noble work of our Orthodox Christian missionaries everywhere who have realized Jesus' words that "the harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few" (Matthew 9:37), and who have prayerfully responded to His call by going out as laborers to spread the Good News of salvation to all corners of the earth.

Fourth Annual Inter-Orthodox Camp Conference Convenes in Frontenac, MN

Camp directors and staff representing various Orthodox jurisdictions of SCOBA convened for the fourth annual Inter-Orthodox Camp Conference this year in Frontenac, MN. The Orthodox Church in America and St. Mary Summer Camp of Minneapolis hosted the conference at Villa Maria Retreat Center during the weekend of January 26-30, 2006, gathering over 40 participants from across the country.

Retreat for Women Graduates of Orthodox Theological Schools

The first retreat for Women Graduates of Orthodox Theological Schools, held at Antiochian Village in Ligonier, Pennsylvania, attracted approximately 30 participants from across the country. Women representing Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (Greek Orthodox Archdiocese), St. Vladimir's Theological Seminary (Orthodox Church in America) and St. Nersess Seminary (Armenian Diocese) met in an atmosphere of prayer, reflection and respectful discussion. Together they shared joys, experiences and concerns affecting their witness and service, so they may better assist in the "building up of the body of Christ" (Eph. 4:12).

Orthodox Christian Mission Center needs Teachers in Albania

HELP WANTED: missionaries for 2-year commitments to serve growing educational projects in Albania. Currently the Orthodox Church, under the direction of His Beatitude Archbishop Anastasios, runs a number of kindergartens and two primary schools, with plans to expand the existing program through high school.

2006-07 Katina John Malta Scholarship Applications Available

Applications are available for the Katina John Malta Scholarship Fund, a scholarship program established at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America by means of a generous gift from the estate of Katina John Malta. The donation and the formation of the scholarship program has been done in recognition of the love Katina had for the Church and in honor of the desire she had to help others, especially children and youth of the Orthodox Christian Faith. At least two scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded for the 2006-07 academic year.

Record Turnout for OCF College Conferences

The annual Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) College Conferences are accustomed to large turnouts. Over the past 10 years, the College Conferences have attracted thousands of college students, high school graduates, and young adults to the five-day winter event. Yet, this year’s conferences – held December 27-31, 2005 – were different. Since records are indeed made to be broken, then this year’s college conferences will long be remembered. Young adults turned out in record numbers, and in the process set the bar very high for future OCF College Conferences.

College Students Serve on Their Spring Break

Orthodox Christian Fellowship’s (OCF) Real Break program offers college students life-changing experiences serving Orthodox communities, orphanages and monasteries on their spring break “being fruitful in every work and growing in the knowledge of God” (Col. 1:10) Registration for Real Break 2006 is now open for teams of 10-15 young people to travel to exciting locations such as Project Mexico, Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage in Guatemala, Raphael House in San Francisco, Holy Monastery of the Twelve Apostles in Greece, and El Salvador to share in the experience of serving others, prayer, fellowship and fun. A Real Break team may also serve an affected disaster area through a Hurricane Relief project in partnership with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).
