Address of the Chairman His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America

The door is open, but here are many adversaries for us, too. Many challenges. This is why it is vitally important to be together, to act together, to strengthen the work of this Assembly. Here we have the opportunity to discuss strategies for offering our Orthodox witness, to deal with problems that we face as churches, as well as problems that we may face with one another.

Address of the Chairman His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America at the 8th Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America

Through God’s grace and providence, we have all been brought together to this one place and we have been called to walk in unison toward a common goal, albeit, one that is still unfolding and which will be fully revealed in the eschaton. While our sights are ultimately set on the 'things to come and longed for,' as long as we call ourselves co-laborers in God’s vineyard, it is our sacred obligation to work together to realize this goal by drawing ever-closer to one another.

Address of the Chairman His Eminence Archbishop Demetrios of America at the 7th Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America

Having approached and partaken in the Holy Eucharist as members of the Body of Christ, we convene here in Detroit, Michigan. It is a city whose people have experienced the results of decades of neglect, isolation, and abandonment, but now steadily move forward on the path of transformation towards a renewed life. I cannot help but reflect upon the idea of transformation in our case. We truly need a transformation in Christ, with Christ, and for Christ leading to unity, holiness and effective service. And if this is so, we must, following the Apostle Paul, strive to know Christ and the power of His resurrection and the sharing of His sufferings (Phil. 3:10), and following the Apostle Peter, with a sincere love for the brethren and from a pure heart let us love one another intensely (1 Peter 1:22).

Address of Archbishop Demetrios at the 2015 Assembly of Bishops

Your Eminences, Your Excellencies and Your Graces, Beloved Hierarchs of the Assembly of the Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America, what a great joy it is to be together again and to sing praise to the Lord, repeating the words of yesterday’s great feast: We venerate Your Cross, Master, and we glorify Your Holy Resurrection.

Letter to Secretary of State John Kerry

We, the Members of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America, kindly bring to your attention the urgent and very serious plight of the Greek Orthodox and Syriac Orthodox Archbishops of Aleppo, Paul Yazigi and Yohanna Ibrahim, who were abducted this past week by 'a terrorist group' in the village of Kfar Dael as they were carrying out humanitarian work.

Address of Archbishop Justinian at the 2011 Assembly of Bishops

I am glad to welcome the fruitful work of the Assembly for the time elapsed since its first plenary meeting in May 2010. First of all, I would like to admit that we came to deep understanding among the leadership, and I can attest to the spirit of brotherly love among us from the experience of my meetings and maintaining mutual contact with the Chairman of the Assembly, Archbishop Demetrios and Co-Vice Chairman, Metropolitan Philip. In turn, this cannot but have a positive impact on the interaction of the coworkers and assistants. In fact, I have to note the excellent work of the Secretariat of the Assembly, headed by Bishop Basil.

Address of Metropolitan Philip at the 2011 Assembly of Bishops

I greet you all in the name of the risen Lord. We are still basking in the light of the glorious Resurrection, but ten days from now, next week, we will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension of our Lord. And somehow ? when we stop chanting, "Christ is risen from the dead," somehow I feel lonely, because this is the most joyful season of the year. Ten days later, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Pentecost, and we read in the Book of Acts that while the disciples were gathered in a hall in Jerusalem, the Holy Spirit descended on them like a mighty wind and filled them and filled the house where they were gathered, and that was the beginning of the Church and her mission to the world.

Address of Archbishop Demetrios at the 2011 Assembly of Bishops

Today, which is one year and one day after our inaugural Assembly in New York City, we convene in the great American City of Chicago, at the hub of one of the world?s busiest airports. It is not without significance that we have traveled many miles to be with one another, in a spirit of fraternity, peace, fellowship and above all Christian love. As Chairman of this Assembly I am grateful for your prayerful and irenic presence, and I am hopeful that we will be able to move our nascent body forward with positive steps that will lead to tangible results for all the Orthodox.

Address of Metropolitan Philip at the 2010 Assembly of Bishops

My opening remarks this morning are taken from the Vespers of Palm Sunday, "Today the Grace of the Holy Spirit has gathered us together." How wonderful and pleasing to God for all of us to meet and discuss matters related to the life of our Church on this particular continent. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chairman of SCOBA for his hard work to make this gathering possible. The literature which we received from Chambésy via the Greek Archdiocese of America, raises some important questions.

Address of Archbishop Justinian at the 2010 Assembly of Bishops

I sincerely greet all of you as the representative of the Russian Orthodox Church, and would like to convey to you the warmest of well-wishes from His Holiness Kyrill, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia. The opening of the Episcopal Assembly of North and Central America coincided with the beginning of my service as Administrator of the Patriarchal parishes in the United States of America. I am glad that, not long after my arrival in this country, I am bearing witness to this inspirational moment of Pan-Orthodox unity and mutual understanding. I hope that our current gathering will lay the foundation for further development of efforts to consolidate Orthodoxy on the American continent.

Address of Archbishop Nicolae at the 2010 Assembly of Bishops

We have gathered here these days bathed in the Light and Grace of the All-Holy Spirit to discuss the future of our Holy Orthodox Church in North America. Whether this comes to be seen as an historic meeting will depend on us, and what we decide. And while we may have been convened in a new way, that fact is that the project of organizing the Church on this continent is not new. As we continue our deliberations it would be helpful to pause and reflect on all of the efforts over the last century that have enabled us to come to this moment.

Address of Archbishop Demetrios, Chairman, at the Episcopal Assembly of North and Central America

As we behold the event of Pentecost, we observe that the multiplicity of languages used by the Holy Apostle in proclaiming the single Gospel is not a cause of confusion or conflict, but a reason for thanksgiving and celebration. The one Gospel does not obliterate linguistic, ethnic, or cultural differences and particularities. The Gospel is clearly a call to unity, but as our history of 2000 years demonstrates, it does not cause an eclipse of the diversity within the Church. And this speaks directly to our case.
