Mission Sunday 2025

“As the Father has sent me, even so I send you”
- John 20:21

To the Reverend Clergy, Monastics, and Faithful
of the Holy Orthodox Churches in the United States:

On Sunday, March 2nd, just prior to Great Lent, Orthodox Christian churches throughout our nation will once again observe Mission Sunday, the day the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the United States of America has designated to remind us that we too, like the Apostles, are being sent to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ! Our Lord’s last words on the earth before His Ascension to heaven command us to, “…go therefore and make disciples of all nations…” (Matt. 28:19). He is commissioning us to bring people into the fullness of life found in Jesus Christ.

The Orthodox Christian Mission Center is the agency of the Assembly of Bishops responsible for coordinating our missionary efforts. OCMC does this by:  sending missionaries and mission specialists throughout the world – including Albania, Brazil, Guatemala, Kenya, Mexico, Romania, Tanzania, Tonga, and Uganda; supporting mission priests; supporting seminaries and training Church leaders; and funding missions grants.

Through these efforts, the faithful of the United States of America – both directly and indirectly – have the opportunity to respond to Christ’s call at His Ascension by promoting the fullness of life found in Jesus Christ, teaching about Jesus Christ, walking alongside others as they enter into the fullness of the faith, and supporting locals by funding projects that share Christ’s love and tend to the whole person.

Therefore, on this year’s Mission Sunday, and every day, I pray that each of us will support the Holy Church’s most critical mission by praying for the missionaries and mission priests around the world and giving to our efforts that bring the fullness of Faith to the ends of the earth. You can learn more about ways to help by visiting Orthodox Christian Mission Center’s website.

May your Lenten journey this year be blessed and may we say with the Prophet Isaiah, “Here am I, Send me” (Isaiah 6:8).

With Blessings in Christ,
