Schedule of Programs for October 2005
10/01/2005
Topic: Church Music and English Language Services
Guest: Fr. Seraphim Dedes
Church music is an integral part of the Orthodox Christian church
experience; as Orthodox Church Services in America are moving toward
English speaking services, so is the church music. Fr. Chris and Emmy
welcome Fr. Seraphim Dedes who will teach us the intricacies of
Byzantine style music and how it is being translated into Western
notation and why. Today we commemorate the life of St. Romanos the
Melodist, who brought us such wonderful church music.
10/08/2005
Topic: A Corporate Perspective on Orthodox Christianity
Guest: Fr. Deacon Michael Hyatt
Fr. Deacon Michael Hyatt, newly elected Chief Executive Officer of
Thomas Nelson Publishers, the largest Christian publisher in the world
and publisher of The Orthodox Study Bible, joins Father Chris and Emmy
to discuss the ever-growing market for Orthodox Christian materials. In
addition, he will give us his personal journey and his corporate
perspective on Orthodox Christianity.
10/15/2005
Topic: The Papacy
Guest: Dr. Aristeides Papadakis
To better understand the view of the Papacy from an Orthodox
perspective, you must first understand the schism. Join us when we speak
with Dr. Aristeides Papadakis, author of The Christian East and the
Rise of the Papacy for a discussion on the differences between the
western (Roman Catholic) and the eastern (Orthodox Church) views on
Papal authority and much more.
10/22/2005
Topic: How Do You Help a Friend That Has a Chemical Dependency?
Guest: Michael Kallas
Addiction is one of the hardest things for people who are not addicted
to understand. As Christians, divine law and its two supreme values, To
Love God & To Love Thy neighbor, direct us. As frustrating as it is
we need to find ways to help our neighbor and ourselves. You as a
listener of this program may be concerned about a loved one’s drinking
or a family member’s drug abuse problem. In any case, be sure to join
Fr. Chris and Emmy while they speak with Michael Kallas and explore some
ways of reaching out and helping those struggling with an addiction
10/29/2005
Topic: The Search for Orthodox Spirituality
Guest: Dr. Kyriacos Markides
Over the last several decades, there has been resurgence by many in
search of Orthodox Spirituality. On of the many was Dr. Kyriacos
Markides who has written a series of books relating to his spiritual
journey back to Orthodoxy; the newest to be released in the fall of 2005
is, “Gifts of the Desert: The Forgotten Faith of Christian
Spirituality”. Be sure to tune in this week as Dr. Markides tells us how
to discover spirituality from a grounded, historical Christian faith;
offering insights into the way that the Christian religion has developed
within the context of the modern world.
