Metropolitan Herman to Lead Orthodox Christian Marchers at 33rd Annual Rally For Life in US Capital
Metropolitan Herman, Archbishop of Washington and New York and Primate of the Orthodox Church in America and well-known spokesman for the sanctity of life, will once again lead hundreds of Orthodox Christian marchers from around the US at the 33rd annual March for Life here Monday, January 23, 2006.
2006-07 Katina John Malta Scholarship Applications Available
Applications are available for the Katina John Malta Scholarship Fund, a scholarship program established at the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America by means of a generous gift from the estate of Katina John Malta. The donation and the formation of the scholarship program has been done in recognition of the love Katina had for the Church and in honor of the desire she had to help others, especially children and youth of the Orthodox Christian Faith. At least two scholarships of $2,000 each will be awarded for the 2006-07 academic year.

Record Turnout for OCF College Conferences
The annual Orthodox Christian Fellowship (OCF) College Conferences are accustomed to large turnouts. Over the past 10 years, the College Conferences have attracted thousands of college students, high school graduates, and young adults to the five-day winter event. Yet, this year’s conferences – held December 27-31, 2005 – were different. Since records are indeed made to be broken, then this year’s college conferences will long be remembered. Young adults turned out in record numbers, and in the process set the bar very high for future OCF College Conferences.

College Students Serve on Their Spring Break
Orthodox Christian Fellowship’s (OCF) Real Break program offers college students life-changing experiences serving Orthodox communities, orphanages and monasteries on their spring break “being fruitful in every work and growing in the knowledge of God” (Col. 1:10) Registration for Real Break 2006 is now open for teams of 10-15 young people to travel to exciting locations such as Project Mexico, Hogar Rafael Ayau Orphanage in Guatemala, Raphael House in San Francisco, Holy Monastery of the Twelve Apostles in Greece, and El Salvador to share in the experience of serving others, prayer, fellowship and fun. A Real Break team may also serve an affected disaster area through a Hurricane Relief project in partnership with International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC).
Frantzes Return to Romania in Time for Christmas
After eleven thousand miles of traveling in the United States, it’s nice to be home for Christmas. That’s the opinion of Floyd and Ancuta Frantz, Orthodox Christian Mission Center missionaries to Romania, who left the Mission Center on Friday, December 16, for their return journey to Cluj, Romania.
Prokopis Grant Supports Orthodox/Catholic Dialogue
Twice each year, twelve Orthodox theologians and twelve Roman Catholic theologians gather for the North American Orthodox/Catholic Theological Consultation that was initiated in 1965 by SCOBA and the USCCB. Having become aware of the papers and statements issued over the years by this oldest ongoing official dialogue between the two Churches, Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel Prokopis decided to encourage this effort and to underwrite the costs of the Consultation for a second year. A similar grant covered all the costs of the Consultation in 2005.

First 2006 OCMC Team Prepares for Argentina
The first OCMC Orthodox Mission Team to Argentina has been invited by His Eminence TARASIOS, Metropolitan of Buenos Aires and Exarch of South America, to the town of Berisso, Argentina. From January 13-28, the 2006 Argentina Mission Team will assist with the construction, repairs and partial restoration of five dwellings in Berisso, outside of Buenos Aires.
OCMC Announces 2006 Mission Teams - “Put Your Faith in Action”!
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center’s 2006 Mission Teams are preparing to travel around the world. Participants will assist Orthodox communities around the globe on various projects. OCMC short-term Mission Teams will travel to Alaska, Albania, Argentina, Ethiopia, Guatemala, India, Kenya, Romania, Tanzania, and Uganda. They will offer Christian witness to the Orthodox Faith, while providing service and support to numerous faithful. Projects include teaching, youth ministry, renovation, construction, and health care outreach.

SCOBA Hierarchs Convene For Fall Session
Actions taken at this session included the final approval of documents submitted to formally establish Orthodox Christian Prison Ministry (OCPM) as the seventh Agency of SCOBA. Upon appointment of its board, the election of officers and the hiring of staff, this new Agency will begin to function early in 2006.
Metropolitan Herman Honored by OCMC Board and Team Chicago
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center Board of Directors held their fall meeting at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Des Plaines, Illinois from November 9-11, 2005. They also welcomed and honored His Beatitude, Metropolitan Herman, Archbishop of Washington and New York, Metropolitan of All America & Canada of the Orthodox Church in America (OCA), in conjunction with Team Chicago’s Benefit Banquet.

45th Annual Scouting Retreat held at Holy Cross Seminary
The Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting (EOCS) held its 45th Northeast Region Annual Scout Retreat at the Holy Seminary, Brookline, MA. The EOCS is responsible for teaching Orthodox Christian values and way of life among the Boy and Girl Scouts of the Orthodox Faith. It also promotes Scouting as part of the youth ministry of Orthodox Churches.

Orthodox Response to Hurricanes Surpasses $3 Million
Following the destruction wrought by Hurricane Katrina and later Hurricane Rita, the response by International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) to the Gulf Coast region has grown to more than $3 million – the largest intervention ever by the agency in the United States.
IOCC Partners Providing Assistance to Pakistan
International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) is partnering with the Orthodox Metropolitanate of Hong Kong and Southeast Asia and Church World Service to provide assistance to survivors of a major earthquake centered in the mountains of Pakistani Kashmir, near the Indian border on October 8.
The Berisso Project – Join the First OCMC Mission Team to Argentina!
The Orthodox Christian Mission Center (OCMC), St. Augustine, FL – The Orthodox Christian Mission Center together with the Greek Orthodox Metropolitanate of Buenos Aires is coordinating “The Berisso Project” which is in need of an international team of young Orthodox Christian adults to repair the homes of elderly founders of the Orthodox Community in the town of Berisso, Municipality of La Plata, Provincias de Buenos Aires, Argentina. These elderly families lack the materials, the tools, and the physical strength to repair their modest homes. The Project is a Mission in Christian Service, given with respect for the individual and with “filial” love.

Over the past ten years thousands of college students, high school graduates, and young adults have gathered for the 5-day events sponsored by OCF, the official campus ministry effort of the Standing Conference of Canonical Orthodox Bishops in the Americas (SCOBA).
